Chundukwa River Lodge
Chundukwa River Lodge is set on the grassy banks of the Zambezi River just 25 kilometres upstream from the mighty Victoria Falls, and Livingstone Town. Chundukwa offers the best of both worlds when visiting the Victoria Falls, as it is only a 30 minute drive, but far enough from the busy hotels and buzzing Helicopters to provide some peace and tranquillity.
Chundukwa is a small, owner-run lodge, and accommodates 16 guests only. This Livingstone Lodge is built of local materials, and blends in perfectly with its surroundings. All of the chalets have uninterrupted river views, mosquito nets, fans and private bathrooms. There are 5 open-fronted stilted chalets (including 1 Honeymoon Suite) and 1 family cottage which sleeps 6. The Family cottage has 2 en-suite bedrooms and a third bedroom with bunk beds for children. There is also a lounge, dining area, plunge pool, deck and private chef and waiter.
The lodge prides itself on providing excellent home-cooked food, incorporating the freshest Zambian produce, which gives the cuisine a local twist. Meals are hosted by one of the lodge’s management team, and guests get to share their experiences with others. Alternatively, you can also arrange for private meals.

An afternoon River Cruise is the perfect way to enjoy the spectacular Sunsets and a closer look at the River inhabitants. With Hippo grunting and campfire glowing, each day comes to an end with a uniquely African lullaby. Chundukwa, and surrounds, is also home to some 450 bird species, making it a birder’s paradise.
You might also enjoy a visit to Mukay Village, which is home to most of Chundukwa’s staff, and has about 300 residents in total. Levy, the head waiter,
is very happy to show guests around the Village and impart some local knowledge on their building techniques, cuisine, traditions and of course the local brew. The funds raised from the tour go back to the village and have already enabled the Lodge to bring a reliable supply of water into the village with help from our neighbours. Many of the guests consider the Village visit a highlight of their African trip due to the warmth of the people they meet, especially the giggling children
Whilst at Chundukwa, you can enjoy a surprising variety of activities (arranged in advance, or when you are the lodge), including game drives/walks,
Golf, visits to curio markets, museums, and adrenalin pursuits such as white water rafting (seasonal), Zambezi River Cruises, Jet Boats, horse trails, bungee jumping, and elephant back safaris.
The Lodge itself also offers overnight canoe safaris, an excellent way to explore the area, making this a great Livingstone Lodge from which to explore the area.
