Mayukuyuku Bush Camp
Mayukuyuku Bush Camp sits on the banks of the Kafue River in one of the most picturesque spots in the Kafue National Park. This is an area known for its diverse variety of terrain, mammals and birds, and is still a fairly unexplored region. Four of the Big Five are here, plus cheetah, wild dog, and over 450 species of birds.
Mayukuyuku is also an ideal place to break a journey if travelling westwards to the Barotse Plains, Liuwa National Park, or to the famous Kuomboka Ceremony near Mongu. The Camp is only 8 kms off the main road that dissects the Park.As Mayukuyuku lies on the Southern edge of the Northern sector of the Park, it is in an ideal position, to allow for good access to both the North and South Kafue to such places as The Busanga or Nanzhila Plains.
Mayukuyuku (meaning water hitting rocks) is situated between the lightly wooded tree line and the Kafue riverbank. This is a small, intimate camp, with just 4 luxury en-suite permanent tents under thatched roofs with their own verandas and hammocks, each one overlooking the river. Bathrooms adjoin the tents and are open to the stars, have hot showers and flushing toilets.

Activities are varied: early morning and sundowner game drives in open vehicles. The sundowner drive turns into a night drive that allows you to see the nocturnally active species. You can also take a leisurely Walking safari, accompanied by guide and armed scout, and affords the opportunity to get closer to nature. Boat trips are popular and a relaxing experience, with the chance to see game coming to the river to drink, hippos and crocodiles bird watching and fishing.
Mayukuyuku also offers self-Drive with a Guide, as you can hire a wildlife guide who will accompany you in your own vehicle for a game drive, for the day, or longer trips if booked in advance.
And for fishermen – bring your own gear and fish on the river’s edge or take the boat with a guide down the Kafue, or into the channels.
