Kafunta River Lodge
Kafunta River Lodge enjoys an excellent spot on the Luangwa River, overlooking the famed South Luangwa National Park.
Accommodating just 20 guests, Kafunta River Lodge ensures comfort and personalised attention. There are 8 thatched roof en suite chalets, all built on raised wooden platforms, and all boast well-appointed interiors. There are 2 luxury suites which each feature upstairs viewing veranda, downstairs balcony and a luxurious bathroom with double sinks, two showers and a free-standing bath. All of the accommodation is equipped with fans, mosquito nets, a mini-bar, and tea/ coffee making facilities.
The central lodge area houses the spacious bar and dining space. Built around a semi-evergreen wild mango tree and thatched in the traditional style, this offers guests excellent panoramic views over the Luangwa River.
For relaxation, there is a swimming pool and, uniquely, a natural hot spring tub… which is fed from a source on the Kafunta’s grounds; it keeps a constant temperature of 38 degrees (Celsius). Here you can enjoy magnificent views over the flood plains and the Luangwa River.

Kafunta River Lodge has its own pontoon, a mere 5 minutes from the lodge, making the River crossing an adventure, and allows direct access to the more remote areas of the park. This saves a 10 kilometre drive to the South Luangwa’s main gate.
Kafunta specializes in game drives: early morning, and again in the afternoon, which continues after sun-set, allowing you the chance to see some of the nocturnally active species.
Guests can also enjoy guided walking safaris, allowing you to get closer to nature. For birders, the Park boasts over 420 species - whatever the season, the South Luangwa is an excellent birding destination, particularly from November to May.
