Musekese Camp
Musekese Camp is situated on a small ridge overlooking a long and open seasonally inundated floodplain (dambo), beyond which is the main Kafue River. Musekese is the local Kaonde name for the most ubiquitous tree species in the area, the Monkey-Bread Tree or Bauhinia thonningii.
Accommodation at Musekese Camp is in five very well appointed ‘Machaba’ safari tents, complete with comfortable beds, soft linens and locally sourced wooden furnishings. Small, extra touches ensure Musekese is quite unlike any other camp in the Kafue. Open air en-suite bathrooms come with traditional wood warmed bucket showers and flushing toilets, combining style with practicality for a comfortable stay.
The main lounge area at Musekese is under a cool, large grass thatch roof, providing shade in the heat of the day where guests can relax with a book from the library or an ice cold drink. The Camp chef creates wonderful cuisine literally from a hole in the ground, baking fresh bread to compliment locally sourced ingredients to produce healthy filling breakfasts, wholesome brunches and incredible three course evening dinners complimented with good wines, and cold beers. Dining is typically outside under the stars.

Guiding at Musekese is of an excellent standard, and the team is the most highly regarded of Kafue experts. Although walking safaris are the main focus, Musekese is well equipped with a boat for relaxing cruises along the Kafue River and its tributary the Lufupa, not to mention some world class fishing.
In addition there are viewing blinds well hidden and situated in game rich and scenically attractive areas, allowing guests the opportunity to let the wildlife come to them. A game-drive vehicle with seats and mounts for photographers is also available, although roads are limited.
An adventure for those who are interested in stretching their legs a little more than usual is to spend a day out in the bush, walking to the unique Chibembi Salt Pan, a vast open expanse of unique landscape some 15 kilometres from Musekese Camp. Alternatively a full day game drive to the visit the Busanga Plains can be arranged.
