Mukambi Safari Lodge
Mukambi Safari Lodge is centrally located in the Kafue National Park, and is set on the banks of the Kafue River itself. The Kafue National Park is one of the largest national parks in Africa (roughly the size of Wales at more than 22,000 square kilometres).
Accommodation is in 7 comfortable en suite chalets (classic rondavel type), which accommodation 2 people. In addition there is a family unit which accommodates 4 people. The Chalets come with either one queen size bed or two single beds. The family chalet has two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and one with two single beds, and a lounge. There is a shared bathroom. All of the accommodation faces the Kafue River.
You also have the option of tented accommodation, as there are 4 luxury tents available, each of which has a private deck with comfortable seating overlooking the Kafue River and each unit is privately surrounded by natural riverine bush. A freestanding ball and claw bathtub is found on each deck. The tents have an open bathroom with shower, toilet and washbasin. Sliding glass doors provide spectacular views and light into the tents.
The main lodge consists of a thatched building with several decks overlooking the Kafue River, and offers an infinity pool, overlooking the Kafue River. The main lodge houses several lounge areas, and the dining area. Off to the side is the fire-pit.

Mukambi Safari Lodge offers wonderful game drives, river cruises, fishing trips and unique walking safaris through the Kafue National Park of Zambia, the largest park of Africa.
The game drive offers the greatest opportunity for spotting game as a large area is covered. At Mukambi the game drives start with a River crossing by boat – and then you meet with the guide and vehicle. Game viewing is best in the early morning or later afternoon/ evening. Although the main focus of many guests are the big animals, in particular the big cats and elephants, the Park is home to a wide variety of species.
You might also be interested in a Walking Safari – it can take a couple of hours, and is more of an educational activity. Although large game species are often sighted, you get the chance to learn about the plant and insect life all around you. The experienced trackers give detailed descriptions of what the animals have been up to and how best to go about finding them.
Mukambi also offers a boat cruise – a far more relaxed activity which allows guests to put their feet up and enjoy the scenery. Sightings are always different, but hippos, crocodiles, several antelope species, and sometimes elephant (drinking or crossing the river) are fairly common sightings. The Kafue River also has some of Africa’s largest crocodiles which can be seen from the safety of the Lodge’s pontoon.
Birdwatchers are in their element with common sightings of the African Finfoot and other rare birds. Common sightings include the jacana, wattled crane, open and saddle billed stork and a variety of king fisher.
A fishing excursion also gives the opportunity to relax and try one’s hand at catching some large fish. Some of the most common fish caught include bream, Kafue bream, silver Barbel and Kafue pike.
