Northern Kafue Explorer Safari
7 night/ 8 day Safari exploring the northern section of Kafue National Park...
Day 1 -You will be collected at the Hotel your choice in Lusaka, for a land transfer to Kafue National Park, and your first night at Mukambi Safari Lodge, which is situated on the banks of the Kafue River, with direct access to the Kafue National Park. The lodge’s accommodation is in comfortable en-suite chalets and a luxurious Riverside Villa which has its private riverside deck, as well as 4 luxury classic safari tents, all overlooking the Kafue River. The total capacity of Mukambi is 32 beds.
The Boma (Restaurant/bar) is centrally located, along with the swimming-pool, along with a number of decks which enjoy spectacular views of the Kafue River. Mukambi is known for its excellent cuisine, friendly staff and highly experienced rangers.
Activities are game drives in open-canopy vehicles, boat cruises and fishing trips along with walking safaris, where there is a good chance of seeing elephant, lion, leopard, impala, and hippo and an incredible variety of birds.
Overnight, including dinner, local brand drinks, afternoon game drive
Day 2 - This morning you set off on a 6 hour game drive/ transfer to Mukambi Plains Camp, for a 3 night stay. The camp is also small and intimate, with only four expansive safari tents. Each complete with en-suite open air bathrooms and a raised central area or Boma, overlooking the Busanga Plains.
This is a seasonal bush camp, open from July-November, situated deep in the heart of the famed Busanga Plains. A trip to the Busanga Plains brings you back to the days when a safari was an exciting trip to reach your destination. Every journey calls for a sense of adventure, a desire to explore the unknown.
The tented camp lies in a remote area. Here lion and cheetah prey on animals such as wildebeest, roan and buffalo. Lechwe and puku graze on the central swamps while the shy sitatunga hides in the papyrus reeds. Crowned and wattled cranes, secretary birds and ground hornbills stalk the grasslands whose openness is interrupted only by tree studded islands. Here ancient fig trees (the famous One Fig) and palms draw their nutrients from giant termite hills. It is a landscape so distinctive, it is almost unique in Africa.
Overnights including all meals, local brand drinks, game viewing activities.

Day 5 - You are transferred/ enjoy game viewing today for 3.5 hours, to Musekese Camp, for a 2 night stay. Musekese is a small and intimate traditional tented safari camp, situated on the banks of the Kafue River. There are only 4 tents, which are furnished with comfortable wooden beds and soft mattresses, bathrooms are open-air and grass thatch keeps the elements at bay, while you enjoy showering under a traditional bucket shower (complete with hot water). Toilets are flush and cold water feeds into the sinks for washing.
You are hosted by a highly regarded team of Kafue experts – allowing you enjoy and learn about this incredibly remote, beautiful and diverse wildlife haven.
Although walking safaris are the main focus, Musekese is well equipped with a boat for relaxing cruises along the Kafue River and its close-by tributary the Lufupa; there is some world class fishing too!
The Camp has some excellent viewing blinds well hidden and situated in game rich and scenically attractive areas, allowing guests the opportunity to let the wildlife come to them. A game-drive vehicle with seats and mounts for photographers is also available, although the number of bush roads are limited. A unique adventure for those who are interested in stretching their legs a little more than usual is to spend a day out in the bush, walking to the almost-time-forgotten Chibembi Salt Pan, a vast open expanse of unique landscape some 15kms from Musekese Camp.
Overnight including dinner, bar (including wine, beer and spirits), activities (walking safaris, game drives, boat trips, viewing hides), laundry, Park Fees.
As you have a 2 night stay, there are some additional, optional excursions that might interest you:
All-day Boat Trip, USD 100 per person (minimum 2/ maximum 6 participants)
Sleep-out (fly-camp), USD 80 per person (minimum 2/ maximum 6 participants)
Day 7 - This morning you be transferred back to Mukimbi Safari Lodge, for your final Safari night.
Day 8 - Today you have a 3.5 hour transfer back to Lusaka, and depending upon your onward arrangements, you have a little more flexibility with arrangements, and will have time for a morning activity, but I would still suggest not booking any flight that departs before mid-afternoon.
