Royal Zambezi Lodge
Royal Zambezi Lodge enjoys 3 kilometres of river frontage, and borders the Lower Zambezi National Park, and is situated within the Chiawa Game Management Area.
The luxurious thatched tents, elegant design and gourmet cuisine of Royal Zambezi Lodge provide an excellent base from which to explore this beautiful and diverse area. A wide copper-roofed veranda provides an informal space for al fresco dining or afternoon tea. Timber decks extend over the river shallows – providing a perfect spot for fine dining under the night sky, and for sitting around the campfire listening to the sounds of the African night. During the day, there is a reed bed which allows for a close study of bird and fish life as well as elephant, hippo and buffalo.
Enjoy breakfast at the pavilion by the veranda, where the chefs will cook your eggs to order or whiz up a healthy smoothie. Lunch can be taken at the Lodge, or try a gourmet picnic lunch, whilst you are out for the day exploring or fishing. In the evening gather at the Sausage Tree Bar. Relax with a glass of South Africa’s finest wine on the suspended deck whilst the Zambezi flows swiftly beneath you and the sun sets behind the distant mountains. Dinner can be enjoyed at a private table set out under the stars, or a roaring fire on a cooler night. You may prefer to relax in your room and have dinner brought to you on your private deck.

Activities are varied, and you can opt for an open vehicle game drive, (including a night drive), bushwalks in the area or a game-viewing boat cruise, and the area has some spectacular birding. Guests can also have a sunset river cruise, or participate in a canoeing safari. With the Lower Zambezi National Park, a mere five minutes drive away, the chance to see good game is increased. The Park is home to good numbers of elephant and buffalo, and offers frequent and reliable lion and leopard sightings.

For guests who are new to fishing or fly-fishing, guides provide expert instruction and assistance. Rods, tackle and flies are provided although enthusiasts may bring their own. All fishing is on a catch and release basis.
